NASA Astronaut William (Bill) Shepherd visited Kurdistan First Lady today, October 15th, 2009 for a light lunch in the mountains at a location of a 6,000 year old ancient village (near Zewe, Kurdistan).Mr. Shepherd’s trip to Kurdistan started in Erbil meeting with dignitaries and VIPs before travelling to Sulimania to meet with the Governor and personnel from other government departments.
During the lunch, Mr. Shepherd discussed his experiences in space as well as his experiences so far in Kurdistan, the people and the country. The two also discussed his speaking engagements at colleges and universities to help encourage students to continue to learn and to provide some insight on what it is like to be in space.
